Your emergency profile is what responders see when they scan your QR code. Keep it short, current and honest.
What you can add
The Profile tab in the app is your emergency profile. It has these sections:
- Conditions: for example diabetes, epilepsy, asthma
- Allergies: especially drug allergies
- Medications: what you take, with doses if helpful
- Medical details: blood group and NHS number
- Doctor information: doctor or clinic name and phone number
- Emergency notes: anything else a responder should know
Two more things live elsewhere in the app:
- Emergency contacts: up to two people, a primary and a backup. Add them on the Contacts tab.
- Name and photo: change them under Settings, then User settings. A photo helps confirm the profile belongs to you.
How to edit
- Open the Medical ID app and sign in.
- Open the Profile tab.
- Tap the section you want to change, make your edit, and save.
Changes appear on your public emergency page immediately. You never need a new card when your details change. The QR code stays the same and always shows the latest version.
Your consent is asked once
Health details are specially protected under UK data protection law. The first time you add a condition, allergy, medication, note, blood group or NHS number, the app asks for your consent to store them. Tick the box and tap Agree and continue. Without consent, health details cannot be saved. You can withdraw consent later by deleting the details, sending a data request from Settings, or deleting your account.
Suggestions while you type
When you type a condition or allergy, the app may suggest matching medical terms. They are only suggestions. Add only what is true for you.
More than one profile
One sign-in can hold several Medical IDs, for example for a child or an elderly relative. Each has its own emergency page, cards and contacts. Tap your name at the top of the Profile tab to switch between profiles or add one.
Tips for a useful profile
- Write for a stranger in a hurry. Plain words beat medical shorthand.
- Put the most important facts first in your notes.
- Review your profile every few months, and after any change in medication.
