Every Medical ID card and bracelet has its own QR code printed on it. The code does nothing until you activate it. Activation links the code to your account. After that, anyone who scans it sees your emergency page.

Before you start

  • Have the card or bracelet with you.
  • Sign in with the account you used to order. The product is tied to that account and cannot be activated from any other. See Sign in with a code.

Activate in the app

  1. Open the Medical ID app and sign in.
  2. Open the My IDs tab. Your card or bracelet is already listed there, marked Pending activation.
  3. Tap Activate now.
  4. Choose Scan with NFC and hold the product flat against the back of your phone, or choose Scan the QR code and point the camera at the code.
  5. The app confirms that the product now opens your emergency page.

If the camera cannot read a bracelet, tap Enter the code instead and type the code printed on the bracelet. Capitals and the dash do not matter.

Activate with your phone camera

  1. Point your phone camera at the QR code and tap the link that appears.
  2. Tap Sign in to activate. We email you a sign-in link. Open it on the same phone.
  3. Tap Activate this card.

The page shows part of the email address the order was placed with, so you know which account to use.

Bracelet not listed yet?

A bracelet you have paid for shows in My IDs as Being prepared until it is dispatched. Once it has been sent, it is ready to activate.

After activation

  1. Fill in your emergency profile: contacts, allergies, conditions, medications and more. See Edit your emergency profile.
  2. Scan your own QR code once to check what others will see.

Something not working?

  • If the page says the product belongs to a different account, sign in with the account that placed the order. If you can no longer get into that account, open a support ticket in the app from Settings, then Support, then Support tickets.
  • If the code will not scan at all, see What to do if a QR code won't scan.
